The best ones to start with are the MCI (multimedia command interface) strings. Look for the MCIStrWH and MMSystem reference files from the Windows SDK. The dunderhead play routine is sndPlaySound, which is supplied with the file name and plays a WAV, no hassle. Windows 95 will offer something called DirectSound, about which I know nothing, but it should be another way to play effects. Look at the prerelease SDK for info. Install disks (6) 2. Bonus disks (2) which contains SoundStation & WaveLite The programs on set 2 (BONUS) can be used for this purpose. You can SAMPLE & playback your sounds. For making soundtracks you need another program I use ScreamTracker 3.0 which is FreeWare. I also heard of SoundTracker Pro 16 (?ware). I hope this answers your question.
